Night Shift Production Manager

The Role

Pesto Princess Foods wishes to employ an experienced Night Shift Production Manager responsible for supervising production line and personnel, following procedures in compliance with company policies (HACCP & GMP) while achieving the highest level of productivity and exceptional product quality.

Pesto Princess manufactures fresh, preservative-free pesto sauces, soups, cooking sauces & dips sold through retail chains and food distributors
nationwide. The factory is in a secure business park, South Peninsula, Cape Town.


Core Responsibilities, Duties & Tasks

  • Implement the production master plan, ensuring all products meet the required quality standards.
  • Manage production line & floor staff.
  • Complete production schedules, increase efficiencies & operate within budget.
  • Complete daily reports accurately (handover reports, attendance, staffing, yields).
  • Identify & communicate opportunities for increased efficiencies through process optimisation, while eliminating repeat deficiencies.
  • Partner with Quality Control to ensure a food safe and sanitary environment.
  • Understand the Food Safety Management System as it relates to production and cultivate a food safety & quality culture within the team.
  • Maintain accurate traceability throughout the production process.
  • Communicate daily targets to the team with clarity.
  • Mentor, coach and train/ cross-train employees by providing consistent feedback on strengths & areas for growth.
  • Manage employee conduct and take appropriate disciplinary action on a fair and consistent basis.
  • Follow and promote all safety initiatives, (wear and ensure others wear appropriate PPE in areas where mandatory.
  • Collaborate & communicate with day shift staff to ensure that departmental goals are met or exceeded.
  • Manage daily, weekly, and monthly stocktakes on the factory floor.
  • Data capture finished goods into Sage Evolution daily.
  • Manage the inventory by keeping track of raw materials, WIP and finished goods for interrupted production flow. Identify raw material shortages and notify management of impact on production schedules. Advise relevant parties of inability to meet scheduled due date.
  • Respond to emergencies or unforeseen events during the night shift.
  • Manage production related maintenance.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

 

Skills, Experience & Attributes

  • Relevant diploma or degree in Production Management, Operations Management, BSc/ BTech or similar qualification.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a management role in a food manufacturing environment
  • Valid Drivers’ licence plus own reliable vehicle are essential.
  • Available for night shift, with sufficient strength, stamina & level-headedness.
  • Competent in Excel, Word and Sage Evolution or similar system
  • Able to manage workflow and delegate tasks
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills
  • Able to follow instructions & procedures, while paying attention to details.

Working Hours

  • Monday to Thursday 18h00 – 06h00 (12-hour night shift).
  • May be required to work dayshift in the summer months and alternate
    weekends.

 

Remuneration & Benefits

  • 288k – 336k per annum, depending on skillset & experience
  • Company provident fund
